Years of squinting, frowning, and other facial expressions can result in wrinkles between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and along the outer corners of the eyes. While these changes are normal, many people feel that their face takes on an unpleasant, angry, or tired appearance, and seek treatment as a result. Botox and Dysport: What are neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators are medications that reduce nerve signals. Botox and Dysport reduce the signals sent to the muscles they are injected into, thereby reducing their ability to contract, and increasing their ability to relax. Botox and Dysport are injected into facial muscles that cause horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows or ‘11s’, and ‘crow’s feet,’ around the eyes.
How do they work?
Since Botox and Dysport relax the muscles they are injected into, the skin overlying the muscles doesn’t wrinkle or bunch up every time a facial expression is made. Overtime, this allows the skin and any wrinkles to flatten or appear smoother. Botox and Dysport last 2-5months. It can take 2 weeks for the muscles to fully relax. Ideally, Botox and Dysport are combined with good skincare and collagen inducing therapies to maximize their ability to reduce wrinkles.
What to expect during and after your treatment:
After a thorough consultation about the procedure with our registered nurses, an appropriate treatment plan will be discussed with you. Although some clients do not find these injections painful, others report mild discomfort, described as a light pinch. Mild redness or bumps at the injection site usually go away within minutes after the treatment. Your injector will discuss everything in detail with you before your treatment. Again, results can last 2-5 months and it may take up to 2 weeks before full effect is noticeable.
